Executive Recruitment Process Ireland: Built for Leadership Hiring
Our executive recruitment process is built for:
Executive Search Methodology
Define the Role & Hiring Strategy
We challenge and refine the brief with clients to define the role, leadership requirements and hiring objectives. This includes organisational context, success criteria, leadership competencies and market positioning.
Market Mapping & Talent Intelligence
We conduct detailed market mapping to identify target organisations, competitor landscapes and potential candidates across Ireland and internationally. No role is advertised publicly; the search is confidential and research-led.
Executive Headhunting & Candidate Engagement
We discreetly approach and engage high-calibre executives, including passive candidates not actively seeking new roles, presenting the opportunity professionally and confidentially.
Assessment & Shortlisting
Candidates are assessed against leadership capability, experience and cultural fit. A structured shortlist, typically three to five candidates, is presented to the client for interview and discussion.
Interview Process & Advisory
We support clients throughout structured interviews, providing insight, guidance and candidate evaluation so each stage remains objective, consistent and aligned to the brief.
Offer & Appointment
We manage reference checks, the offer process, negotiations and final appointment. Post-appointment support helps ensure a smooth transition and successful placement.
Executive Search Strategy & Hiring Process
Every search is underpinned by a clear executive search strategy.
This strategic approach ensures clients are not just hiring, but making the right leadership decision for their business.

Executive Search Process FAQ
How does your executive search process work?
Our retained executive search process runs from an initial briefing and role definition through to market mapping, confidential candidate outreach, structured assessment, shortlisting, and final appointment. Each stage is managed exclusively by a senior Azon consultant. Typical search timeframes run from eight to twelve weeks depending on role seniority and market conditions.
How long does an executive search take?
A retained executive search typically takes eight to twelve weeks from briefing to appointment. This timeline covers market mapping and candidate identification (weeks one to three), outreach and qualification (weeks two to five), assessment and shortlisting (weeks four to seven), and offer and appointment (weeks eight to twelve). Complex or board-level searches may take longer.
What happens after shortlisting?
Once a shortlist is presented, Azon supports the client through structured interviews, candidate management, reference checking, offer negotiation, and appointment. We remain involved throughout - our retained model means our responsibility does not end at shortlist. Post-appointment support is provided to ensure a smooth transition into the role.
What is the difference between retained and contingency executive search?
Retained executive search means a single firm is engaged exclusively to manage the full process, from briefing to appointment. Contingency recruitment involves multiple agencies competing for the same role, paid only on placement. At Azon, we work exclusively on a retained basis - every search receives the full investment of time, market coverage, and advisory input it requires.
What makes Azon's executive search process different?
Azon combines executive search with leadership advisory - we do not simply fill roles, we help clients define what the right hire looks like and challenge assumptions where the market requires it. Every search is retained, exclusive, and managed from brief to appointment by a senior consultant with direct sector experience in Ireland.
What level of roles does the process cover?
Our retained executive search process is designed for C-suite and board-level appointments, including CEO, CFO, CTO, CMO, CHRO, and non-executive director roles. We also support senior director-level mandates where the hire is critical to organisational performance. We do not operate below director level.
